Precious Bane - Mary Webb, Howland Hilder (Illustrator) What an enjoyable read! I had my usual laugh over reviewers who class this book as stilted or dated. Such people seem to want authors to write as though they live decades beyond their real life spans. Cold Comfort Farm was written as a parody of just such novels. But I truly enjoyed it, in all its gothic glory.
