Varjak Paw - S.F. Said, Dave McKean Pre-read for my son, who likes the cat Warriors series. I think he'll like this, but maybe a bit later. Maybe when he's 9 or so. Varjak has some disturbing scenes that might be a bit overwhelming at 7. Varjak's family is in danger and he has to learn to fight and hunt to save them. He learns a martial art called The Way of Jalal. There are gangs of city cats who terrorize the weak and defenseless. I like Dave McKean's dark and moody illustrations, but I'm not sure L will.
