The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - Alan Bradley WHY: I'm not a big fan of books that feature precociously intelligent kids, where there is always the danger of the kids being unrealistically grown-up or just too preciously annoying. But this series, featuring an 11-year-old as the mystery solver is supposed to be funny. We'll see.
