The House on the Strand - Daphne du Maurier Du Maurier at her most deliciously creepy. Time travel to 14th century Cornwall via experimental drugs is just not likely to end well, is it? Lots of twists and surprises. I did find I didn't like the protagonist much, but he gets his in the end, so that's all right.
